Tripura Expands Welfare Network, Upgrades Anganwadi Centres: Tinku

Date:

Agartala, 9th June 2026:  The Tripura government has rolled out a wider set of social welfare measures alongside efforts to modernise early childhood care centres, focusing on child protection, tribal outreach, and support for vulnerable groups.

Officials said four new welfare projects have been introduced under the Social Welfare and Social Education Department this financial year, with a strong emphasis on preventing child marriage and strengthening safety nets for girls.

As part of the infrastructure push, 100 Anganwadi centres have been upgraded to English-medium facilities, while 562 centres have been converted into model centres with improved facilities. In tribal regions, 226 new centres have been launched to expand outreach, along with 119 additional centres under a separate development initiative.

The state has also expanded financial assistance schemes. Under the Chief Minister’s Kanya Bivah Yojana, 45 beneficiaries aged 18 and above received ₹50,000 each, while 105 girls were supported through fixed deposit benefits under another scheme aimed at promoting long-term welfare.

In broader social security coverage, over 1.34 lakh people receive Rs 2,000 monthly under national assistance programmes, along with benefits from more than 35 state and central pension schemes.

A Rs 5 crore recreation centre for persons with intellectual disabilities is also planned, reflecting a parallel focus on inclusive care infrastructure.

The announcement was made in Agartala, where officials highlighted that Anganwadi workers continue to receive comparatively higher honorarium levels, while addressing earlier administrative delays in payments.
