Agartala, 10th August 2024: The stage is set for the counting of votes from Tripura’s three-tier panchayat elections, which were held on August 8. The State Election Commission has announced that the vote counting will take place on August 12, with the results being declared on the same day.
Secretary of the State Election Commission Asit Kumar Das confirmed that counting will take place at 35 designated centers, one in each block covering the Gram Panchayat, Panchayat Samiti and Zilla Parishad. To ensure a smooth and secure process, the State Police have deployed adequate security personnel at all counting centers.
In a first, the State Election Commission has introduced a system for the public to view the election results in real time. Das explained, “We have set up a website where common people can check the results of any seat as they are announced.”
The number of rounds in each counting center will depend on the number of voters in the respective polling stations. Amarpur RD Block has emerged as the area with the highest voter turnout, with a total of 14,084 registered voters. Of these, 12,494 people cast their votes, resulting in an 88.71% voter turnout. Specifically, 6,352 male voters and 6,142 female voters participated in the elections in this block.
On the other hand, Durga Chaumuhani Block recorded the lowest voter turnout, with 18,460 registered voters, of whom 13,286 voted, translating to a voter turnout of 71.97%. The block has 9,337 male voters and 9,123 female voters, with 6,832 male voters and 6,454 female voters exercising their franchise.
Overall, the state witnessed a voter turnout of 80.82%, reflecting significant public participation in the electoral process. The State Election Commission has ensured that all necessary preparations are in place for a transparent and efficient counting process. With anticipation building across the state, the results are expected to provide a clear picture of the public’s choice for local governance.
