Agartala, December 02: The Tripura government has announced a hike in the minimum support price (MSP) of paddy from farmers for the current kharif season. The MSP has been increased to Rs 21.83 per kg, and the government will procure 80,000 metric tons of paddy from the farmers starting from December 11.
This was revealed by Food Minister Sushanta Chowdhury at a press conference at the Secretariat on Friday. He said that a virtual meeting was held earlier in the day, jointly by the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare and the Department of Food Public Procurement and Consumer Affairs, where the decision was taken unanimously.
He added that the paddy procurement will be done in a phased manner at 89 paddy buying centers across the state, and the process will be completed by January 31. He said that the government’s aim is to benefit the farmers by purchasing paddy directly from them every year.
