Agartala, 7th February 2026 : Tripura Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister Sushanta Chowdhury today reiterated the state government’s commitment to farmers’ welfare, highlighting ongoing efforts to boost food grain production and secure fair prices for cultivators.
Chowdhury stated that since the formation of the present government in 2018, special emphasis has been placed on improving agricultural productivity and the socio-economic condition of farmers. He noted that the initiative aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of doubling farmers’ income through targeted welfare schemes.
To safeguard farmers from losses due to falling paddy prices, the state government introduced procurement at the Minimum Support Price (MSP) during the Rabi season of 2018—marking the first such step in Tripura. Continuing this policy, the Department of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, with support from the Department of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, has set a target of procuring 18,000 metric tons of paddy at an MSP of Rs. 2,369 per quintal during the current Kharif season.
Chowdhury participated in the paddy procurement program at the government food godown premises in Jirania Madhabbari today, in the presence of Tripura Governor Indrasena Reddy Nallu. He emphasized that such initiatives reflect the government’s sustained commitment to ensuring farmers receive fair value for their produce.
