Tripura Journalists seek CM’s Intervention Over Deputy Speaker’s Anti-Media Remarks

Agartala, 14th April 2025:   A delegation of journalists, including senior editors and reporters, led by veteran journalist Subal Kumar Dey, called on Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha to raise concerns over an alleged derogatory remark made by Deputy Speaker Ram Prasad Paul against the state’s media.

According to reports, Paul had shared a video on his Facebook page in which he is believed to have made slanderous comments targeting the media fraternity of Tripura.Describing the incident as unprecedented, Subal Kumar Dey said, “Never before have we witnessed a legislator—let alone the Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Assembly—verbally attack the media in such a manner. This is the first time such a situation has arisen. We met the Chief Minister to bring the matter to his attention.”

Dey, who also serves as the Editor of Syandan Patrika, a prominent Bengali daily in Tripura, added that the Chief Minister has assured them that he will look into the matter seriously.“We are now waiting for the Chief Minister’s response. If needed, we will also take this issue up with the Central government,” Dey said.

The delegation also included Agartala Press Club President Pranab Sarkar, Editor Shanit Debroy, senior journalist Biswendu Bhattachar ya, and other media professionals.
