Agartala, 20th August 2025:    The Tripura Manipuri Student Youth Coordination Committee on Wednesday submitted a deputation to the Director of School Education, pressing for the immediate recruitment of Manipuri language teachers and broader infrastructural support for the language’s development in the state’s education system.

Committee leaders highlighted that Manipuri was officially introduced as a subject from Class I to Class VIII back in 1998 to promote linguistic diversity and cultural inclusion. However, despite the policy’s inception over 25 years ago, no dedicated Manipuri language teachers have been appointed to date. The committee also pointed out the absence of any meaningful infrastructure development to support the language’s growth in schools.

“The government has shown no initiative in advancing Manipuri language education since its inclusion in the curriculum,” said a representative during the deputation. “We demand immediate recruitment of qualified Manipuri language teachers and concrete steps to improve teaching infrastructure.”

The committee warned that failure to address these long-standing issues could lead to intensified protests in the near future.
