Agartala, 30th December 2025:   Tripura East Member of Parliament Kriti Devi Debbarman has urged Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami to take urgent and decisive steps in connection with the murder of Anjel Chakma, a student from Tripura who died following a violent assault in Dehradun.

In a letter addressed to the Chief Minister, Debbarman expressed profound sorrow over the incident, stating that Anjel Chakma was attacked on 9 December and later succumbed to his injuries. She described the case as deeply troubling and said it has caused widespread anxiety among students and families from Tripura and other North-Eastern states living in Uttarakhand.

The MP noted that her office had been in regular communication with the Uttarakhand administration since the incident and was informed that an FIR had been registered and legal proceedings initiated. However, she voiced serious concern over reports indicating that the prime accused in the case remains at large.

Calling for immediate action, Debbarman appealed to the Chief Minister to personally ensure the arrest of the absconding accused and to guarantee that all those responsible are brought to justice and punished in a strict and exemplary manner.

She also emphasized the urgent need for stronger safety mechanisms for students from Tripura and the wider North-Eastern region who migrate to Uttarakhand for education and employment. According to her, the incident has deeply shaken the confidence of families who send their children outside the state in search of better opportunities.

“The administration must send a clear and firm message that violence, discrimination, and criminal brutality will not be tolerated,” the MP stated in her communication.

Expressing confidence in the Uttarakhand government’s leadership, Debbarman said she hopes for prompt and effective action in the case and reaffirmed her full cooperation to ensure justice for the victim and a sense of security for the student community.
