Agartala, 12th February 2026: The Tripura CPI(M) on Thursday sharply criticized the policies of the BJP-led state and central governments, asserting that they threaten the interests of farmers, laborers, and the broader agricultural sector. The party organized a large rally in Agartala in support of the ongoing nationwide general strike.
Former Chief Minister Manik Sarkar told the media that the strike is a response to what he described as the BJP government’s pro-corporate, anti-labor stance.
“They are favoring corporate interests while weakening labor protections and exploiting the Labour Code. Policies affecting farmers and agriculture are under threat. Programs like MNREGA, which provide essential work and support for the poor, risk being dismantled or reshaped to benefit corporate profits,” Sarkar said.
He also expressed concerns over India’s recent agreements with the United States, warning that they could negatively impact workers.
“Workers and farmers are facing increasing hardships under BJP rule. This strike is a moment for citizens to unite and protest against a government that prioritizes corporate gains over the welfare of the people,” Sarkar added.
Tripura Leader of Opposition Jitendra Choudhury joined the rally, criticizing the central government for allegedly transferring national assets to foreign entities.
“Working-class citizens and laborers are standing up against policies that threaten their livelihoods. Farmers are also likely to face serious consequences due to agreements with the US and other corporate-focused decisions. This strike is an essential protest against such policies,” Choudhury said.
