Agartala, 9th July 2026: Union Minister for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) and Communications, Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, on Thursday described Tripura as one of the Northeast’s fastest-growing investment destinations and called on businesses to participate in the State’s development journey during his virtual address at the Destination Tripura Business Conclave 2026.
Scindia said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Northeast has transformed from a border region into a key driver of India’s economic growth. He noted that the Prime Minister’s Act East Policy has repositioned the region as India’s gateway to Southeast Asia, opening new avenues for trade, connectivity, and investment.
Highlighting Tripura’s strategic importance, the Minister said the State is uniquely placed at the crossroads of connectivity and commerce, with Agartala emerging as an important link to the ASEAN market of more than 670 million people. He said the conclave reflects Tripura’s readiness to attract long-term investments across multiple sectors.
Scindia pointed to the State’s rich natural resources—including natural gas, bamboo, agarwood, rubber, tea, spices, and horticultural products—as well as its skilled workforce, investor-friendly policies, improving infrastructure, and India’s third International Internet Gateway. He added that Tripura’s position as the country’s largest bamboo-producing State and second-largest producer of natural rubber creates significant opportunities in manufacturing, value addition, food processing, logistics, exports, and technology-driven industries.
Emphasising the importance of infrastructure-led growth, the Union Minister said that sustained investment is driven by confidence, which in turn is built through strong infrastructure and visionary planning. He highlighted several transformative projects, including the India–Myanmar–Thailand Trilateral Highway, the Kaladan Multimodal Transit Transport Project, the Special Economic Zone at Sabroom, the Maitri Setu bridge, and the Integrated Check Post, all of which are strengthening Tripura’s role as a trade and export hub connecting India with Southeast Asia.
Inviting investors to explore the State’s growing opportunities, Scindia said Tripura’s journey from a landlocked State to a gateway to the Bay of Bengal reflects the broader transformation taking place across the Northeast under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership. He reaffirmed the Centre’s commitment to accelerating the region’s development, adding that the Ashtalakshmi States are set to play a pivotal role in India’s march towards a Viksit Bharat.
