Agartala, 23rd July 2024: The North Tripura District Police arrested a notorious drug dealer from Mizoram. The suspect has been identified as Hawlam Manga, was brought back to the state after evading authorities for some time. The arrest took place on Tuesday and the police have handed over the accused to the court.
The investigation began when Bagbassa police station officers arrested two individuals driving a new car without license plates on June 30. A search of their vehicle yielded over 400 grams of brown sugar. During interrogation, the detained suspects revealed that the drug’s owner had fled to Mizoram.
To apprehend the drug kingpin, a specialized team led by Additional Superintendent of Police from the North District was formed. The team promptly traveled to Mizoram, where they collaborated with local authorities. With their assistance, they successfully arrested the notorious drug dealer Hawlam Manga in the Champai area of Mizoram. Manga (36) was then brought back to Tripura.
In a press conference held on Tuesday, North District Superintendent of Police Bhanupada Chakraborty emphasized the seriousness of the drug trade. He stated, “The law applies equally to all individuals, regardless of their affiliations. Action will be taken against those involved in drug trafficking.” Notably, some police personnel have already faced consequences for their alleged involvement in the drug network.
In a related incident, the Dharmanagar police station seized a Mahindra Thar car containing a substantial quantity of Yaba tablets on Monday. The vehicle’s owner Jhumpa Biswas is the wife of Police Constable Santosh Shil. Authorities are closely monitoring this case to determine the appropriate action against Constable Shil.
