Tripura Police Detain 106 for Unruly Behaviour, Drunk Driving During New Year Celebrations

Agartala, 1st January 2026 :  Tripura Police detained a total of 106 people for unruly behaviour and drunk driving during the New Year celebrations on the intervening night of December 31, 2025, and January 1, 2026. Despite large gatherings across the state, only one road accident was reported, police said.

A senior police official said that extensive security arrangements were put in place across Tripura, particularly in Agartala city, to ensure peaceful celebrations.

“Keeping the New Year in mind, we strengthened security in crowded areas, conducted vehicle checks, and took action against those found violating the law,” the official said.

According to police, 82 individuals were detained for unruly behaviour, while 24 were held for driving under the influence of alcohol. District-wise, one person was detained in North Tripura, 19 in Unakoti, 42 in Dhalai, and 10 each in Gomati and South Tripura for creating disturbances.

In cases of drunk driving, five persons were detained in Unakoti, one in Khowai, six in West Tripura, four in Gomati, and eight in South Tripura. Police stated that all precautionary measures were taken to maintain law and order, ensuring the New Year celebrations passed largely without incident.
