Agartala, 27th March 2026:  A foreign national has been taken into custody by Tripura Police near Agartala Railway Station on suspicion of illegal entry into India.

According to Amtali Police Station Officer-in-Charge Paritosh Das, the individual—identified as Austin Ayuk Etta—was detained after officers grew suspicious while he was preparing to board a train in the station area.

Initial inquiries suggest that the youth is a citizen of Cameroon and is believed to have crossed into India through the Bangladesh border without proper authorization. During interrogation, he was unable to provide valid travel documents or identification.

Following this, police placed him under custody. Officials stated that he will be presented before a court, where they intend to request a five-day police remand for further questioning.

A case has been registered under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (Sections 61(ii)(a)/143(ii)), along with Sections 21 and 23 of the Immigration and Foreigners Act.

Authorities are continuing their investigation to understand how he entered the country and whether he has any links or associates.
