Agartala, 8th September 2025 : Tripura marked another milestone in its healthcare journey today as doctors at Agartala Government Medical College (AGMC) and GBP Hospital successfully carried out the state’s fourth consecutive kidney transplant. The complex surgery was performed on a 23-year-old youth from Rabindrapalli, West Taranagar, Sidhai Mohanpur in West District, who received a kidney donated by his 45-year-old mother.
According to the Health Department, the procedure was jointly conducted by a team of expert doctors from AGMC & GBP Hospital in collaboration with Sija Hospital and Research Institute of Manipur. Both the donor and recipient are reported to be in stable condition and recovering well.
The medical team from AGMC & GBP Hospital was led by Consultant Nephrologist Dr. Manas Gop, assisted by Dr. Samaresh Pal, Dr. Reshmi Das, and Dr. Udayan Saha, along with Consultant Urologists Dr. Mukut Debnath, Dr. Bijit Lodh, and Dr. Jiban Debnath. From Manipur’s Sija Hospital, Consultant Urologist and Transplant Surgeon Dr. Soumorendra Pounam and Dr. Maharabam Mahili played a vital role. The anesthesiology team was also crucial to the success of the surgery, with Dr. Kajal G. Momin and Dr. Gayatri S. Pillai representing Sija Hospital, while Dr. Bhaskar Majumder, Dr. Ranjit Riang, and Dr. Tapan Debbarma represented AGMC.
The operation was supported by a dedicated team of OT nurses, floor nurses, and OT technicians. Transplant coordinator Himadri Kar, along with Senior Nursing Officer Tapati Chakraborty, who supervised the entire process, ensured smooth execution of the procedure.
In its official statement, the Health Department credited this remarkable achievement to the sincere efforts and guidance of Chief Minister Professor (Dr) Manik Saha. Under his leadership, Tripura has been steadily strengthening its advanced healthcare infrastructure, bringing life-saving medical procedures closer to the people of the state.
