Agartala, 3rd October 2024: In a promising development, Tripura’s Director General of Police, Amitabh Ranjan, announced that the state has achieved its lowest crime rate in a decade for the year 2024. This significant reduction comes as authorities ramp up security measures in preparation for the upcoming Durga Puja festivities.
During his recent visit to various police stations and outposts in Khowai District, DGP Ranjan emphasized the proactive approach of the Tripura Police. He noted that senior officials are actively inspecting facilities, including Tripura State Rifles (TSR) camps, as part of ongoing efforts to ensure public safety.
“Our Chief Minister, Prof. Dr. Manik Saha, has provided clear directives. We are focusing not only on law enforcement but also on our internal operations, infrastructure, and the welfare of our personnel,” said DGP Ranjan. He highlighted that thorough inspections aim to identify and eliminate any potential weaknesses in the security framework as the state gears up for a peaceful celebration of Durga Puja.
Ranjan also mentioned that the police are engaged in comprehensive discussions about law and order, reflecting a commitment to maintaining a secure environment. “We recently convened a meeting to assess law and order issues, and I am pleased to report that this year has seen the lowest crime rates over the past ten years,” he stated.
With the upcoming Puja in mind, the police force is preparing for extensive deployments to ensure a safe atmosphere for the festivities. Review meetings are in progress, and stringent measures are being put in place to tackle any attempts at coercive collection of Puja subscriptions. DGP Ranjan reassured the public of a strong police presence and prompt action against any violations to safeguard the community’s celebrations.
