Agartala, 3rd September 2025 : Tripura has recorded a steady decline in unemployment over the past six years, with figures consistently staying below the national average, according to the Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS) of the Ministry of Statistics & Programme Implementation.

In 2018-19, the state’s unemployment rate was 10% against the national average of 5.8%. However, it dropped sharply to 3.2% in 2019-20 and remained unchanged in 2020-21. The rate further decreased to 3% in 2021-22, reached 1.4% in 2022-23, and stood at 1.7% in 2023-24, compared to the national average of 3.2% during the same period.

Officials attributed the decline to sustained government initiatives in employment generation. Since 2018, 19,810 people have secured government jobs through a transparent recruitment process. The Joint Recruitment Board of Tripura (JRBT) has appointed 4,417 candidates to Group-C and Group-D posts, while the Tripura Public Service Commission (TPSC) and the Teachers’ Recruitment Board are conducting regular examinations, including 700 new graduate teacher posts.

Beyond government recruitment, the state has also emphasized private sector employment. Between 2018-19 and 2024-25, 102 job fairs were organized under the National Career Service (NCS) Scheme, facilitating jobs for 2,231 candidates. Meanwhile, 7,010 Class VIII-passed youths have registered on the NCS portal, with district employment centers open for registrations across qualifications.

The government says these efforts, coupled with rising opportunities in both government and private sectors, reflect a positive trend in reducing unemployment across Tripura.
