Tripura State AIDS Control Society Hosts National Consultation to Combat HIV/AIDS Spread

Agartala, 9th December 2024:   Tripura State AIDS Control Society (TSACS) initiated a two-day multi-stakeholder National Consultation today at a private hotel in the state, aiming to curb the spread of HIV/AIDS, particularly among intravenous drug users. The workshop, which brings together key stakeholders, was inaugurated by Kiran Gitte, Secretary of the Health and Family Welfare Department.

Dr. Samarpita Dutta, Project Director of TSACS, delivered the welcome address at the opening session, outlining the workshop’s goal of initiating significant steps to tackle HIV/AIDS in the state. The event also saw the participation of several prominent figures, including the Chief Secretary of Tripura, JK Sinha, Dr. Chinmayi Das, Public Health Specialist at the National AIDS Control Organization, and Raval Hemendra Kumar, Special Secretary for the School Education and Higher Education Department.

Other dignitaries present included the State Director General of Police, Amitabh Ranjan, along with District Magistrates, Superintendents of Police, and senior officers from various departments.

The focal point of the workshop is reducing the number of intravenous drug users in Tripura, a growing concern for public health. In his speech, Dr. Amit Debbarma, Assistant Project Director of TSACS, emphasized the importance of the initiative in safeguarding the future of the youth and mitigating the risk of HIV transmission.

This is the first large-scale workshop organized in Tripura to focus on HIV/AIDS prevention, and it aims to bring about significant changes in the state’s approach to addressing this health crisis. Officials expressed hope that the discussions held during the workshop would pave the way for future interventions that will help prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS and protect vulnerable populations.

The event is set to continue tomorrow, with more detailed discussions planned to ensure the success of the initiative and extend the benefits of the workshop across the state.
