Agartala, 28th April 2026: A powerful storm accompanied by heavy rainfall struck Tripura on Tuesday, causing widespread damage across all eight districts. According to the State Emergency Operation Centre in Agartala, a total of 1,534 houses were affected—76 completely destroyed, 195 severely damaged, and 1,263 partially damaged. Additionally, 129 electricity poles were knocked down, and two people sustained injuries.
Unakoti district was the worst hit, with 518 houses damaged, including 26 fully destroyed, 33 severely impacted, and 459 partially affected. Other districts also reported significant losses: 136 houses were damaged in North Tripura, 272 in Dhalai, 250 in Sepahijala, 37 in West Tripura, 85 in Khowai, and 236 in South Tripura. In Gomati district, no houses were damaged, but two individuals were injured after a tree collapsed on them.
The storm also uprooted numerous trees, leading to road blockages in several areas. While some routes have been cleared, restoration work is still ongoing in others. Despite the heavy rainfall, all rivers remain below danger levels. The highest rainfall—159 mm—was recorded in the Kamalpur subdivision of Dhalai district.
