Agartala, 15th November 2024:   The Tripura Students Federation (TSF) staged a protest in front of the Shiksha Bhavan here demanding the introduction of the Roman script for the Kokborok language. The protesters assert that adopting the Roman script is essential for the preservation and expansion of Kokborok, which holds significant cultural and historical value for the indigenous people of Tripura.

The demonstrators blocked the gates of the Shiksha Bhavan, raised slogans and vowed to continue their agitation until their demands are met. “We are determined to see the Roman script introduced for Kokborok. It will play a crucial role in preserving our culture and heritage,” stated a TSF spokesperson during the protest.

The TSF believes that the Roman script will enhance the accessibility and learning of Kokborok, making it easier for younger generations to connect with their roots. “Our language is a key part of our identity. Introducing the Roman script will help in its widespread adoption and ensure it thrives,” said another protester.

Despite the intensity of the protest, the state government has yet to make a final decision on the matter. This indecision has led to rising tensions and speculation that the discussions and protests around this issue will only intensify in the coming days. “We urge the government to consider our demands seriously and take prompt action,” urged the TSF leaders.
