Agartala, 24th May 2025:  In a significant development for Tripura’s railway connectivity, the Centre has approved a new train service between Agartala and Guwahati (Narangi), following persistent efforts by West Tripura MP and former Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb.

Announcing the news on Facebook, Deb wrote, “Another achievement. I express my sincere gratitude and appreciation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw for approving the launch of a new rail service on the Agartala-Guwahati route, respecting the demands of the people of Tripura and prioritizing passenger comfort.”

Sources close to the MP said the approval follows Deb’s meeting with Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on April 22 in New Delhi, where he strongly advocated for enhanced rail services in the state. His demands included the introduction of direct express trains connecting Tripura to key regional hubs, along with modernization of existing infrastructure.

Responding promptly, the Ministry of Railways approved the new Agartala–Guwahati train service and formally communicated the decision to Deb through an official letter.Expressing his appreciation, Deb thanked the Railway Minister for acting swiftly on the state’s needs. “The assurance given by the Hon’ble Minister during our April 22 meeting has now translated into action,” he stated.

The new train service is expected to greatly benefit passengers by improving regional accessibility, reducing travel time, and strengthening socio-economic ties between Tripura and Assam.
