Agartala, 18th March 2026: Years have passed without the holding of village committee elections due to certain uncertainties. The matter eventually reached the Supreme Court, which has now clearly directed that the elections must be completed within the month of June.

Sources confirm that the State Election Commissioner will conduct the village committee elections by the last week of June. The State Election Commission has submitted an affidavit in the Supreme Court to this effect.

Tripra Motha, who had approached the Supreme Court, had raised concerns regarding the delay in the elections. During the hearing, the Supreme Court instructed the State Election Commission to formally present their position through an affidavit. Following this, the State Election Commission submitted their affidavit, assuring the court that the ADC’s village committee elections will be completed by June 2026.

A lawyer representing Tripra Motha confirmed that the case regarding the ADC’s village committee elections was heard in the Supreme Court, and the State Election Commission’s affidavit was duly recorded during the proceedings.
