Agartala, 18th June 2025:  In a landmark initiative poised to redefine healthcare and gender leadership, Tripura is set to become home to the world’s first fully women-run medical college and super specialty hospital. The project led by Tripura Santiniketan Medical College (TSMC) is under rapid development on Queen’s Farm on the outskirts of Agartala.

According to TSMC officials, the initial phase includes a 650-bed hospital nearing completion with support from the state government. A second phase will see the construction of an 1,100-bed super specialty hospital within two years, making it a pioneering institution globally for being entirely managed and operated by women entrepreneurs.

“This will be a world-class multi- and super-specialty center. Departments such as cardiology, neurology, oncology, pediatrics, and gynecology will be housed under one roof, along with modern emergency units, telemedicine, research, and digital healthcare facilities. Women entrepreneurs are and will remain at the heart of this project,” said Malay Pit, President of TSMC.

The initiative is not only a leap in medical infrastructure but also a bold stride in social transformation. Every facet of the institution—from administration and finance to clinical operations and technology—will be led by women, marking a significant shift in a sector traditionally dominated by men.

The project gained national attention during the Asia Book of Records recognition ceremony held on June 14 at the Press Club of India in New Delhi. A delegation of women entrepreneurs from Tripura, associated with the hospital, shared their journeys of struggle and success. Their testimonies, described by Pit as “a powerful document of determination,” left a lasting impression on dignitaries and senior officials in attendance.

“These women are not just building a hospital—they are building a movement,” Peet added. “Their confidence and determination will drive the socio-economic development of Tripura.”

Established in 2024 and affiliated with Tripura University, TSMC has already made headlines for enrolling 150 MBBS students from 21 states across India in its inaugural academic session. The institution aims to provide high-quality medical education and healthcare services while fostering women’s leadership in the sector.

Once operational, the hospital is expected to reduce the dependency of Tripura’s residents on medical institutions in Kolkata or Delhi, offering world-class treatment and education within the state.

As construction progresses, the project stands as a testament to the power of vision, resilience, and inclusive development—where healthcare meets empowerment, and dreams take root in the red soil of Tripura.
