Agartala, 16th July 2024: Tripura Transport Minister Sushanta Chowdhury on Tuesday wrote a letter to the Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw seeking to provide a stoppage of Kanchanjangha Express in Belonia Railway Station of South District.
In the letter, Tripura Minister said that the recent extension of the 13173/13174 Kanchanjangha Express Train service from Agartala Railway Station upto Sabroom Railway Station in South District.
“This extension marks a significant improvement in connectivity of the State, offering greater convenience and accessibility to passengers travelling to and from Sabroom, South Tripura District. Now, there is a demand from the people of Belonia Sub-Division of South Tripura District for stoppage of 13173/13174 Kanchanjangha Express Train at Belonia Rail Station”, the letter reads.
The Minister has pointed out that providing a stoppage at Belonia Rail Station shall improve connectivity scope for the residents of Belonia Sub-Division to other parts of Tripura and beyond and it will allow easier access to transportation for both local residents as well as visitors.
He said that it will add to the conveniences for the passengers travelling to and from Belonia, reducing travel time and making journeys more comfortable for commuters, students and other travellers.
“Belonia Rail Station will better serve as an important strategic location in the rail network of Tripura, facilitating smoother operations and optimizing the usage of rail resources. In short, the demand for a stoppage of the Kanchanjangha Express Train at Belonia Rail Station is driven by the present need to improve connectivity, support economic growth, enhance convenience for travellers and meet the increasing demand for transportation services in the region. Besides, Belonia is the district Head Quarter of South Tripura District. In view of the above, I am further to request you to kindly consider the proposal of stoppage of Kanchanjangha Express Train at Belonia Rail Station for the greater interest of the people of Belonia being the District Head Quarter” it added.
