Agartala, 10th July 2024:   Members of the Tripura Pradesh Youth Congress and the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) were arrested during a protest against the state government’s decision to close schools. The protest aimed to surround the residences of Chief Minister and Education Minister Prof Dr Manik Saha.

As the demonstrators approached their destination, police intervened arresting and forcibly dragging them into a police van. They were subsequently transported to the AD Nagar police line.

Pradesh Youth Congress President Neelkamal Saha condemned the government’s actions, stating, “The state government’s anti-education policy has led to the closure of schools in various parts of the state. This decision is pushing the lives of students into darkness. We protested today to make our voices heard.”

A police official reported that around 60 protesters were detained and taken to the AD Nagar police line, adding, “They will be released later.”
