Agartala, 28th June 2024: In a significant development, the former Chief Minister of Tripura and the incumbent Lok Sabha MP Biplab Kumar Deb has written a letter to Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Friday urging for a crucial stoppage of the Kanchenjunga Express at Belonia railway station in South district.
The Kanchenjunga Express, a vital train connecting important cities in the northeastern region with Kolkata, West Bengal, has been a lifeline for travelers. However, its current route bypasses Belonia, causing inconvenience to students, patients, traders, and the general public.
In his letter to the Railway Minister, Biplab Kumar Deb emphasized the need for a stoppage at Belonia. He stated: “I am forwarding herewith a letter dated 26.06.2024 received from Shri Pranab Sarkar, Editor of Headlines Tripura National. He has highlighted the significance of Belonia as a historic town and stressed the importance of facilitating smoother travel for various segments of the population.”
Pranab Sarkar, the Editor of Headlines Tripura National, had previously sent a letter to Deb, expressing the community’s concerns. Sarkar’s letter underscored the role of the Kanchenjunga Express in connecting the region and requested its stoppage at Belonia.
The proposed stoppage would not only benefit local residents but also enhance connectivity for tourists, traders, and those seeking medical treatment. Students traveling to educational institutions would find it more convenient, and patients requiring medical attention could access better facilities.
As the matter gains attention, the Railway Ministry is expected to consider this request seriously. The inclusion of Belonia as a stop on the Kanchenjunga Express route could significantly improve transportation options for the people of South Tripura.
