Agartala, 16th June 2025:   In a significant appeal to Tripura’s indigenous farming community, Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma, the royal scion and founder of the Tipra Motha Party (TMP) urged farmers to unite under the Tripura Indigenous Farmers’ Association to strengthen their economic prospects.

Taking to his official Facebook handle on Monday, Debbarma emphasized the need for collective action to brand, market and sell indigenous products such as bamboo, oranges, arecanut, mangoes and pineapples across India and globally. “We have some of the best produce in the country, yet we are one of the most exploited farmers in the country,” he stated.

Debbarma highlighted the importance of economic empowerment for indigenous farmers, asserting that taking local produce to the global market is essential for the community’s progress. “I firmly believe that to rise as a community, we must empower our farmers economically by taking our produce from local to global,” he added.

The call for unity comes amid ongoing discussions on economic sustainability and fair trade practices for indigenous farmers in Tripura. The proposed association aims to provide a structured platform for farmers to enhance their market reach, negotiate better prices, and ensure fair trade policies.

Debbarma’s statement has sparked conversations among agricultural experts and policymakers, with many acknowledging the potential of Tripura’s indigenous produce in national and international markets. The initiative, if realized, could mark a turning point in the economic landscape of the region’s farming community.
