Agartala, 30th April 2025:  Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha on Tuesday announced a significant decline in Tripura’s unemployment rate, attributing the development to the state government’s transparent recruitment policies and focus on employment generation.

Addressing an appointment letter distribution ceremony at the Nazrul Kalakshetra Auditorium in Agartala, Dr. Saha said that till March 2025, a total of 17,554 government jobs had been provided, including 3,554 appointments made in 2025 alone.

The event saw the distribution of appointment letters to 228 newly recruited teachers — 66 Under Graduate Teachers (UGT) and 162 Graduate Teachers (GT) — under the state Education Department.

Dr. Saha, who also holds the Education portfolio, reiterated the state government’s commitment to systematic and transparent recruitment. “We have maintained complete transparency in our recruitment process. Today, 228 appointment letters have been handed out in the Education Department in strict adherence to the guidelines,” he said, extending his congratulations to the new recruits and wishing them a bright future.

He also mentioned that the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) II was conducted on April 27, and the TET I exam is scheduled for May 4. “Recruitment is ongoing. We are issuing appointments regularly and ensuring that no eligible candidate is deprived,” he added.

Emphasizing administrative efficiency, Dr. Saha said the government is working to fill both newly created and long-vacant posts. “In addition to regular recruitment, we have also resorted to outsourcing to ensure smooth functioning of government departments. The process is entirely system-driven,” he said.

Highlighting employment generation across sectors, the Chief Minister noted that over 2,900 individuals have been placed in government and private institutions as security personnel and in other service roles, while more than 1,600 jobs have been created in Tripura’s industrial areas through the Tripura Industrial Development Corporation over the last three years.

Dr. Saha also stressed the importance of vocational education and skill development in addressing unemployment. “In 2018-19, Tripura’s unemployment rate was 10%, significantly higher than the national average. As per latest data from the financial year 2023-24, the rate has now dropped to just 1.7%,” he informed.
