Agartala, 12th January 2026: A serious road accident took place early this morning on National Highway-08 near Birchandra Manu Lachi Camp in Santirbazar subdivision. A six-wheeler goods-laden truck lost control and veered off the highway, plunging into a deep gorge. The driver and his assistant sustained severe injuries in the crash.
Police sources informed that the truck was transporting goods from a shopping complex in Belonia and was en route to Agartala. Preliminary investigations suggest the accident may have been caused by driver negligence in the early hours of the morning.
Upon receiving the report, a police team led by OC Jayanta Das of Manu Manpathar Police Station, along with personnel from the Santirbazar Fire Service Department, rushed to the spot. Firefighters promptly rescued the injured and transported them to South Tripura District Hospital at Santirbazar.
The driver has been identified as Binoy Biswas (30), a resident of Nadia district in Kolkata. Efforts are underway to ascertain the identity of the other injured person.
Police have launched an initial probe to determine the exact cause of the accident, examining whether driver fatigue, mechanical failure, or other factors contributed to the mishap.
