Agartala, 18th September 2024:  In a significant move to improve the quality of electricity services in the state, the Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL) has officially taken over the management of several key power subdivisions, terminating a decade-long contract with the private firm, FEDCO. The decision was made following mounting complaints from customers regarding FEDCO’s failure to provide satisfactory services, particularly in the areas of billing and customer service.

Announcing the decision on September 13, TSECL officials assured consumers that the corporation is now fully committed to providing uninterrupted electricity services across the state. A senior official from the corporation said, “We have heard the grievances of our customers and decided that it was time to step in. The responsibility of ensuring reliable electricity and efficient customer service now rests entirely with us.”

For the past 10 years, FIDCO had been managing customer services and bill collection for several subdivisions under TSECL, including Ambassa, Gandacherra, Chawmanu, and Manu in the Dhalai Circle; Mohanpur, Hezamara, Bamutia, and Lefunga under Agartala Circle No. 2; and Sabroom and Satchand in the South Tripura Circle. However, repeated complaints from consumers, citing delays in billing and poor customer support, prompted the state government and TSECL to intervene.

“The private organization FEDCO was entrusted with the task of handling bill collection and customer service, but their performance has been below expectations. The continuous complaints regarding poor service made it clear that a change was necessary to restore public confidence in the power supply system,” explained another official.

Effective immediately, TSECL will assume complete control over the subdivisions, overseeing everything from bill collection to addressing customer complaints. “We urge consumers to no longer engage with FEDCO for any electricity-related transactions, including bill payments. TSECL will handle all aspects of power supply from here on,” the official added.

To facilitate a smoother transition and ensure seamless communication, TSECL has issued a list of helpline numbers for consumers to report any issues or inquiries related to electricity services. Customers can reach out to their respective power subdivisions through the following numbers: Sabroom Power Sub-Division: 6033132054; Satchand Power Sub-Division: 9612433021; Lefunga Power Sub-Division: 6033131817; Bamutia Power Sub-Division: 6033131315; Gandhigram Power Sub-Division: 6033131824; Mohanpur Power Sub-Division: 6033131309; Ambassa Power Sub-Division: 6033131418; Gandacherra Power Division: 6033131417; Manu Power Sub-Division: 6033131818; and Chawmanu Power Sub-Division: 6033131891.

TSECL emphasized that consumers can report any complaints or issues regarding electricity services to these helplines. “Our focus is now on strengthening the service delivery mechanism and ensuring that all consumers experience a seamless and uninterrupted power supply,” stated the official, reinforcing the corporation’s commitment to providing reliable electricity service moving forward.

As TSECL takes over these responsibilities, the move is expected to address long-standing customer concerns and improve overall satisfaction with the state’s power distribution network.
