Agartala, 18th August 2025:  The Twipra Student’s Federation (TSF), a constituent body of the North East Students’ Organisation (NESO), staged a sit-in protest near the Circuit House in Agartala today, demanding firm action against illegal immigrants in Tripura.

Addressing the gathering, TSF Vice President John Debbarma said that similar demonstrations are being held across the state to highlight the long-pending issue of illegal immigration.

“The problem of illegal immigrants in Tripura and other North Eastern states is not new. For over 40 years, our indigenous people have been facing this crisis. As per the call of NESO, we are staging this protest to demand the detection and deportation of illegal immigrants. We will also submit a memorandum to the Chief Minister,” he said.

John further urged the state government to strictly implement the Ministry of Home Affairs’ directives and ensure coordination with other North Eastern states.

“Evictions are underway in Assam, and many of those displaced may try to enter Tripura. The government must take preventive measures and strengthen communication with neighbouring states to stop such infiltration,” he added.
