Agartala, 23rd March 2025: The Twipra Students Federation (TSF), an indigenous students’ organization in Tripura, has decided to withdraw its protest over the Kokborok script issue following a meeting with Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha on Sunday. The student body had been blockading national highways since March 21, demanding the adoption of the Roman script for the Kokborok language.
On Saturday, TSF had announced plans to continue its protest in Agartala on Monday while remaining open to discussions with the Chief Minister to address the issue.
After Sunday’s meeting, TSF General Secretary Hamalu Jamatia stated that the organization had called for a strike on March 21 to push for the adoption of the Roman script. “Today, we met Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha at his official residence, where we had an in-depth discussion. He acknowledged the legitimacy of our demands and recognized the challenges faced by students and the indigenous community. He assured us that he would take up the matter with higher authorities and work towards a resolution. We appreciate his initiative in engaging with us. Based on his assurance, we have decided to withdraw our protest for now,” Jamatia said.
