Agartala, 14th August 2026 : The Tripura Tribal Employees Association (TTEA) has urged the state government to take effective measures to safeguard employment opportunities for local youths following the decision to discontinue the mandatory Permanent Resident of Tripura Certificate (PRTC) for government jobs.
The state Cabinet recently replaced the PRTC requirement with a criterion under which candidates must have studied regularly in Tripura for at least five years between Classes I and XII and submit relevant educational documents during recruitment.
TTEA General Secretary K. M. Debbarma welcomed the five-year schooling criterion, saying it recognises candidates with long-standing educational links to Tripura. However, he stressed that effective priority for local youths must also be ensured.
According to the TTEA, the PRTC requirement introduced in 2023 was intended to protect employment opportunities for Tripura’s local population. With that condition now withdrawn following court directives, the association fears that candidates from outside the state could face fewer barriers to government recruitment, intensifying competition for local unemployed youths.
The association said Tripura’s youth are not against merit-based competition but urged the government to adopt a balanced policy. It has demanded that the five-year schooling criterion be considered alongside an appropriate mechanism to ensure priority for genuine local candidates.
Debbarma appealed to the government to sympathetically consider the issue and formulate a clear and fair recruitment policy in the long-term interest of Tripura’s youth.
