Agartala, 2nd March 2026: Concerns have emerged regarding the functioning of the state’s Social Welfare and Social Education Department in Dasharathbari ADC Village under Melaghar police station. Local residents allege mismanagement after two Anganwadi Kendras, located barely a kilometre apart, have been left dependent on a single teacher.
According to local sources, one centre operates in Madhucharan Para and another in nearby Pal Para. For the past four months, the Bonk Bari Anganwadi Kendra has been running without a permanent teacher due to departmental negligence. As a stopgap measure, the Child Development Project Office (CDPO) in Melaghar assigned Pushparani Debnath, the teacher from Pal Para Anganwadi Kendra, additional responsibility for Bonk Bari.
However, residents complain that it is nearly impossible for one teacher to manage two centres simultaneously. As a result, regular lessons and essential services for young children are being disrupted. Parents fear this situation is undermining the quality of early childhood education in the area.
Community members have demanded immediate recruitment to fill the vacant post at Bonk Bari, stressing that a permanent appointment is the only way to resolve the issue. They argue that without proper staffing, children’s education and welfare will continue to suffer.
So far, it remains unclear whether the department has taken any concrete steps to address the problem. Locals hope that a dedicated teacher will soon be appointed to Bonk Bari Anganwadi Kendra to restore normalcy.
