Agartala, 27th July 2026 : Tripura Police arrested two individuals and recovered 38 packets of suspected brown sugar during an anti-drug operation in Kumarghat, Unakoti district, on Monday.
According to police, the operation was launched following specific intelligence inputs. A joint team intercepted a blue Renault Duster (Registration No. AS-03-AD-4875) and conducted a detailed search of the vehicle, leading to the recovery of 38 containers (koutas) believed to contain brown sugar.
Personnel from Kumarghat Police Station, along with the Duty Magistrate (DCM), reached the spot to oversee the legal procedures. Authorities said all formalities are being carried out in accordance with the law.
The two occupants of the vehicle, identified as Rajesh Das (41) and Sajal Das (45), were taken into custody. Police said the seized substance is being weighed and tested, while seizure procedures are underway.
A case under the relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act is being registered, and further investigation is in progress.
