Two arrested for smuggling cigarettes from Myanmar to Bangladesh

Agartala, 16th November 2024 :   In a significant operation led by Udaipur Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Nirman Das, two youths were arrested along with two cars in the Khupilang area under Radha Kishore Pur police station. The suspects have been identified as Nimai Pal from Manu Ghat and Prasenjit Majumdar from Baikhora were caught transporting cigarettes from Myanmar to Bangladesh.

The accused introduced themselves as drivers and admitted to smuggling the cars in exchange for Rs 3000. “We were able to seize 63 packs of cigarettes from them, the market value of which could be several lakhs of rupees,” said SDPO Nirman Das. He added, “The police will investigate everything thoroughly and present them in court.”

The operation highlights the ongoing efforts of the police to curb smuggling activities in the region. The authorities are now conducting further investigations to uncover any additional links or accomplices involved in the smuggling network.
