Two arrested in connection with Lakshmi Puja violence; Police seek remand

Agartala, 18th October 2024:   In connection with the violence that erupted over the burning of firecrackers during Lakshmi Puja, two youths have been arrested by the NCC police.

Sushanta Deb, the in-charge of the NCC police station confirmed that the arrested individuals named Rakesh Pal and Rajesh Pal, both residents of Indranagar has been presented in court on Friday with a request for police remand.

Deb further explained the incident, stating, “On the day of Lakshmi Puja, despite a ban on firecrackers, a group of youths were setting them off at the residence of Suranjan Sarkar. When he tried to stop them, Sarkar was attacked. Following the altercation, he filed a case with us at the NCC police station.”

The police promptly initiated an investigation, leading to the arrest of the two suspects. “We have gathered sufficient evidence to take the case forward, and now we are asking the court for police remand to continue the investigation,” added Deb.
