Agartala, 25th July 2025:   Two Bangladeshi nationals suspected of cross-border smuggling were killed after Border Security Force (BSF) personnel opened fire near the 63 Number Gate in the Belonia-Banshpaduya border area late last night.

The deceased have been identified as Zakir Hossain Millat (20) and Mohammad Yasin Liton (45), both residents of Banshpaduya village under Parshuram Municipality in Bangladesh. According to local reports, the incident took place when three alleged smugglers attempted to transport garments, cosmetics and other goods from India into Bangladesh.

Troops from BSF’s 43rd Battalion reportedly confronted the trio, leading to gunfire. Liton was killed on the spot, while Millat and a third individual, Mohammad Afsar (30), managed to flee with injuries. Liton’s body was later recovered by Belonia police and sent to Belonia Hospital morgue. Despite post-mortem procedures completed this afternoon, the body had yet to be handed over to family members due to legal complications at the time of reporting.

Meanwhile, Millat and Afsar were initially taken to Parshuram Hospital in critical condition. Doctors later referred both men to Chittagong Medical College for advanced care. Tragically, Millat succumbed to his injuries en route on last night.

Authorities have yet to issue an official statement regarding the encounter, while Bangladeshi officials have reportedly requested clarification from their Indian counterparts. Investigations are ongoing.
