Agartala, 4th May 2025: In a joint operation, the Government Railway Police (GRP) and Railway Protection Force (RPF) at Agartala Railway Station arrested two individuals allegedly involved in drug trafficking. Authorities recovered 22.775 kg of dry ganja, packed into 13 packets stored in a handbag, a regular bag, and a trolley bag. The accused were reportedly en route to Punjab, utilizing railway routes for transportation.
“This is a significant seizure, and we believe it to be part of a larger trafficking network,” said an official from Agartala GRP, adding that the arrested individuals had transported narcotics multiple times before, but this marked their first attempt from Agartala Railway Station.
The suspects have been identified as Billal Hossain (36), a resident of Madhya Boxanagar under Kalamchoura police station in Sepahijala District and Pintu Sarkar (31) hailing from Khasia Mangal under Teliamura Police Station in Khowai District.
A case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at Agartala GRP Police Station, and officials predict further arrests linked to the case. “Preliminary estimates suggest that the seized ganja could be worth approximately Rs 4,55,500 in Punjab,” said an officer overseeing the investigation.Both accused are scheduled to be presented before the High Court tomorrow.
