Two more arrested in Shubhankar Saha murder case

Agartala, 26th September 2024:   In a significant development in the Shubhankar Saha murder case, Amtali police have arrested two more suspects bringing the total number of arrests to four out of the six accused. The latest arrests were made on Wednesday based on information from confidential sources.

Amtali Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shrikanta Bardhan addressed the media on Thursday afternoon, providing detailed updates on the case. “We have successfully apprehended Shantanu Sen and Jayant Debnath, who were involved in the brutal attack on Shubhankar Saha. They will be handed over to the court, and we will seek police remand for further investigation,” Bardhan stated.

The incident took place on September 17, when Shubhankar Saha was attacked with sharp weapons by six individuals in the Kanchan Nagar area under Amtali police station. Despite receiving medical treatment at GB Hospital, Saha succumbed to his injuries on August 18.

Following the attack, the police registered a case and made their first arrest on September 18, detaining Bapan Chakraborty. Subsequent investigations led to the capture of two more suspects, and with the latest arrests, the police have now detained four of the six accused.

OC Bardhan emphasized the ongoing efforts to apprehend the remaining suspects. “Out of the six accused, four are now in our custody. One is currently in jail, while the other three are under police custody. We are actively pursuing the remaining two suspects and are confident of their imminent arrest,” he added.

The police have assured the public that all legal processes are being meticulously followed, and the arrested individuals will be presented in court after completing the necessary formalities.

The murder of Shubhankar Saha has sent shockwaves through the community, and the police are under pressure to ensure swift justice. The authorities have reiterated their commitment to bringing all perpetrators to justice and maintaining law and order in the region.
