Agartala, 10th July 2026: Agartala Government Medical College (AGMC) and GBP Hospital is set to perform two more kidney transplant surgeries on July 14 and 15, marking another milestone in the state’s expanding renal transplant programme.
The upcoming procedures, which will be the eighth and ninth kidney transplants conducted at the hospital, are being carried out under the supervision of specialist doctors. Officials said the initiative has gained momentum through the efforts of Chief Minister Professor (Dr.) Manik Saha, enabling patients with chronic kidney disease to receive advanced treatment within the state.
So far, seven successful kidney transplants have been completed through the joint efforts of specialists from GBP Hospital and Shija Hospital, Manipur. Tripura’s first kidney transplant was performed on July 8, 2024, while the sixth and seventh procedures were successfully conducted on March 30 and 31 this year.
The two patients scheduled for the upcoming transplants are 23 and 25 years old. Teams of kidney transplant specialists from GBP Hospital and the Research Institute of Shija Hospital will jointly perform the surgeries.
Officials said all necessary medical evaluations of both donors and recipients are currently underway at AGMC and GBP Hospital. The transplant process follows strict medical protocols and is undertaken only after approval from the authorized committee constituted under the prescribed guidelines. Compatibility between donors and recipients, along with other mandatory medical investigations, is carefully assessed before the surgeries are cleared.
