Agartala, 31st August 2024:   Two Rohingya nationals were arrested by the Government Railway Police (GRP) at Agartala railway station for allegedly infiltrating Tripura once again. The GRP’s Officer-in-Charge, Tapas Das, confirmed that the two individuals, identified as Azida Begum and Ramzan Ali, would be presented in court on Saturday with a request for police remand.

The arrests occurred amid heightened security measures along the Tripura border, enforced by the Border Security Force (BSF) due to ongoing unrest in Bangladesh. With the situation in Bangladesh remaining volatile, there has been an increased vigilance on border crossings, leading to more frequent encounters with illegal entrants.

According to Tapas Das, the GRP received a tip-off about suspicious individuals loitering around Agartala railway station. Acting swiftly on this intelligence, the police conducted a targeted operation, resulting in the arrest of the two suspects. Upon interrogation, both admitted to illegally entering Tripura and were planning to travel to Kolkata from the railway station.

Further investigations revealed that the arrested individuals were residents of the Kutupalong Rohingya Camp-5 in Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh. Authorities are now probing their connections to any other accomplices involved in the infiltration. The GRP is determined to uncover the full extent of this illegal entry operation and is pursuing a thorough investigation to ensure the security of the region.
