Agartala: September 06. A somber cloud of grief descended upon the serene town of Murabari, situated under the jurisdiction of the Bishalgarh police station, as two teenagers lost their lives in a heart-wrenching incident while celebrating the Mansa Puja festival.

The incident unfolded on Wednesday, during the abandonment phase of the annual Mansa Puja, held at the residence of local resident Hemendra Debnath.

As the Mansa Puja festivities were underway, the Debnath household was bustling with activity as family members and guests took part in the traditional ritual of bathing. Meanwhile, three teenagers, comprising maternal uncle and cousins, ventured to a reservoir adjacent to the Murabari Baba Ashram for a refreshing bath. Tragically, 15-year-old Saikat Debnath and 14-year-old Dibakar Das met with a grim fate as they drowned in the reservoir waters.

The third teenager, who had accompanied them, promptly rushed back home to report the incident.

Responding swiftly to the alarm, locals and family members raced to the scene and made a valiant effort to rescue the two youngsters from the water. Despite their heroic attempts, the victims were rushed to the Bishalgarh hospital, where, regrettably, the doctor on duty declared them deceased.

In a distressing turn of events, the fire department was reportedly contacted but failed to arrive in time to provide assistance. The police were subsequently alerted and arrived at the scene to initiate an investigation into the tragic incident.

The news of the untimely demise of the two minors plunged the Debnath family into inconsolable grief, with tears flowing freely in the hospital waiting area. The gravity of the situation drew the attention of Sushanta Deb, the MLA of the area, who rushed to offer his condolences and support to the bereaved family.
