Agartala, 21st June 2025: Two youths from Kailashahar subdivision in Tripura’s Unakoti district remain missing after a tragic accident in Sikkim on May 29, when an SUV carrying multiple passengers plunged into the fast-flowing Teesta River.

The missing youths have been identified as Swapnanil Deb (26) and Debajyoti Deb (25), both residents of Kailashahar. Despite ongoing search efforts, their bodies have not yet been recovered.According to a Tripura government official, who requested anonymity, the strong river current has severely hampered rescue operations. “The SUV veered off the road and fell into the Teesta. Due to high water levels, the rescue teams have not been able to retrieve the bodies,” the official said.Authorities suspect that the bodies may have been swept downstream, possibly crossing into Bangladesh. “There is a possibility that the bodies have flowed into Bangladesh, but the rescue operation is still underway,” the official added.

Family members of the missing youths have travelled to the accident site and are in close contact with officials from the Sikkim administration.Further updates are awaited as the search continues in challenging riverine conditions.
