Two youths held with air gun, sharp weapon at Udaipur

Date:

Agartala, 4th  October 2026 : Tension gripped the Dhwajanagar Police Line Chowmuhani area of Udaipur on Saturday night after two youths were detained following a road accident in which an air gun and a sharp weapon were reportedly recovered from their vehicle.

According to local sources, a Maruti Eeco bearing registration number TR03T0589 was travelling from Udaipur towards Bagma when it allegedly lost control near the Dhwajanagar Police Line intersection along the Agartala-Sabroom National Highway. The vehicle rammed into a roadside makeshift shop and a parked motorcycle, triggering a commotion.

Locals reportedly detained the driver after the accident. Some eyewitnesses alleged that the occupants appeared to be intoxicated and claimed that the driver was assaulted by members of the agitated crowd. During a subsequent search of the vehicle, an air gun and a sharp weapon were allegedly found, heightening tension in the locality.

On receiving the information, personnel from Radhakishorepur Police Station reached the spot and brought the situation under control. The two occupants, including the driver, were taken into custody, while the damaged vehicle was impounded. Police subsequently sent the detainees for medical examination.

Police identified one of the detainees as Krishan Jamatia (26), while the other was identified as Onar Jamatia (31). Both are reportedly residents of areas within Udaipur subdivision.

Police are questioning the two youths to determine the circumstances behind the incident, the origin and legality of the recovered weapons, and the purpose for carrying them. Authorities are also verifying whether the suspected firearm is an air gun.

The incident comes ahead of the October 5 vote counting and result declaration for the ADC Village Committee elections, adding to concerns in the wake of the September 28 shooting incident at Warengbari. However, police have not established any link between Saturday night’s incident and the elections, and the matter remains under investigation.
