Agartala, 12th September 2025 :   Unakoti District Hospital has set a remarkable example of medical dedication by saving the life of Dipali Biswas, a resident of Manu in Dhalai district, through a high-risk surgery conducted under limited infrastructure.

Biswas had suffered a leg fracture in an accident nearly a year and a half ago. Due to lack of timely and proper treatment, the injury developed into gangrene, a life-threatening condition where tissue dies because of inadequate blood supply. Despite seeking treatment in several hospitals, her condition deteriorated and her life was at risk when she was finally admitted to Unakoti District Hospital.

According to hospital sources, her hemoglobin level had dropped below five, adding to the criticality of the situation. Taking the challenge head-on, orthopedic specialist Dr. Nirmal Debbarma led a surgical team in amputating the lower part of her left leg to stop the spread of gangrene. Prior to the operation, three units of blood were transfused. The surgery was carried out successfully with the support of anesthesiologist Dr. Rupmoy Das, OT nurse Kaveri Saha, OT assistant Mithun Malla, Subhash Debbarma, and other medical staff.

The timely intervention saved Biswas’s life, earning widespread appreciation from locals. Residents of Unakoti hailed Dr. Debbarma and his team for their commitment and courage in carrying out such a complex procedure despite infrastructural constraints.

Medical observers say the successful operation demonstrates that with determination, skill, and teamwork, critical surgeries can be performed even in district-level hospitals with limited resources.
