Agartala, 26th June 2026: The Department of Agriculture, led by Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Tinku Roy on Friday organized a district-level campaign at Sreerampur in Kailashahar demanding the immediate preservation of agricultural lands and adoption of natural farming practices.
The convention called for a comprehensive shift toward sustainable agriculture. Agricultural authorities urged local farmers to note the critical reduction in soil fertility caused by the excessive use of chemical fertilizers.
Party to the campaign, department representatives state the event took place at Swami Vivekananda Hall in Chandipur to analyze eco-friendly techniques. Following organic model presentations, the administration initiated action and coordinated a mass outreach program under the Unakoti Krishi Vigyan Kendra.
Addressing reporters outside the hall, Minister Tinku Roy raised serious concerns over the decline of arable land. He questioned how future generations managed to secure healthy food production without an immediate halt to chemical-based farming practices.
“This cannot be treated as an isolated effort. The transition must determine how soil health is maintained and whether our farmers successfully transition to sustainable methods,” Roy said.
The agricultural scientists and local leaders asserted that any continued dependency on synthetic inputs should be treated as a threat to food security.
The joint committee submitted a final action plan to the Director of Agriculture, demanding a thorough implementation, swift training, and stringent guidelines for chemical distribution across the region.
