Unemployed graduates protest delay in TET exams in Tripura

Agartala, 30th October 2024:  Despite the rule to conduct the TET exam annually, the last TET exam in Tripura was held in 2022 leaving many unemployed graduates with B.Ed and D.El.Ed degrees disappointed. On Wednesday, a delegation of these graduates visited the TRBT office to meet the department head. After failing to receive a satisfactory response, they staged a protest in front of the city center.

According to the protesters, the TET exam is supposed to be conducted twice a year. “In other states, teaching vacancies are being filled by regularly conducting the TET exam. However, despite the shortage of teachers in Tripura, the government is not holding the exam,” one of the protesters stated.

The TRBT authorities are reportedly ready to conduct the exam, but the government has not given the necessary permission. “The state government is not allowing the recruitment board to conduct the examination as the district administration is not ready,” explained the director to the job seekers. “Once we receive the green signal from the government, we can issue the notification and conduct the exam immediately. The recruitment process takes about four to five months to complete.”

However, there has been no order from the government to conduct the exam even as the year draws to a close. The frustrated graduates demanded that the TRBT authority release the examination notification within this year. “If the notification is not issued, we will be forced to escalate our protest in 2025,” one of the unemployed graduates warned.

They have called on the director of the recruitment board to bring this matter to the attention of the state chief minister and education minister Dr. Manik Saha. The ongoing delay has added to their concerns, prompting a growing sense of urgency among the unemployed degree holders.
