Agartala, 3rd September 2024:   The unemployment crisis in Tripura continues to escalate as the slow pace of the hiring process exacerbates the woes of job seekers. The state has witnessed a series of protests by unemployed youth demanding the speedy completion of various recruitment processes.

In recent months, unemployed individuals have taken to the streets, protesting for the swift completion of the jail police job process and the appointment of firemen and drivers for the fire service. The slow pace of the constable recruitment process in Tripura Police has also drawn significant ire.

“The government and its departments are playing with the youth,” said one protester, reflecting the frustration felt by many.

The recruitment process has been suspended for years, leaving millions of unemployed people in the state feeling hopeless. There has been no response from state government officials or various departments, further fueling the discontent.

On Tuesday, hundreds of unemployed youth gathered in front of the police headquarters, demanding the speedy completion of the state police recruitment process. According to the protesters, the recruitment process has been stalled since 2022.

“We have been waiting for years with no progress,” said another protester. “The advertisement was published to recruit male and female constables for 1,000 vacancies. We passed the physical test, and 6,200 of us took the written test. But now, we are not being called for the oral exam and medical tests after the written exam results were declared.”

The protesters have submitted deputations to the state police headquarters, urging the completion of their recruitment process before Durga Puja. “We were given hope that the recruitment process would be completed quickly, but from January to September, no further tests have been conducted,” lamented a protester.

The youth returned to the police headquarters, determined to make their voices heard. “We will not stop until our demands are met,” they declared.
