Agartala, 19th August 2024: In a swift response to a security breach, Tripura Police on Monday suspended a guard commander, reassigned security personnel, and launched disciplinary action after a group caused havoc inside the residence of former Minister and BJP MLA Manoj Kanti Deb late Sunday night in Kamalpur, Dhalai District.

According to sources close to the BJP MLA, four intoxicated youths managed to break into Deb’s residence and attempted to attack him, although he was inside at the time. “Around 12:30 AM on Sunday night, four individuals arrived at the residence of former minister and MLA Manoj Kanti Deb and began kicking the main entrance,” a source said.

The situation escalated when the intruders forced their way through the gate, gaining access to the property. The MLA’s personal bodyguard responded to the disturbance, but the intruders, identified as Sagar Ghosh Sarkar, Durjoy Deb, Liton Ghosh, and Uttam Ghosh, continued their aggression, using abusive language toward the MLA.

CCTV footage, now viral on social media, captures the assailants shouting, “Sheikh Hasina has lost power in Bangladesh. Mamata Banerjee will fall in West Bengal, and Manoj Deb in Kamalpur will be removed too.”

In an official statement, the Dhalai District Police confirmed the incident, emphasizing that disciplinary measures have been taken. “In connection with the viral video circulated by various digital media outlets regarding last night’s incident at the Kamalpur MLA’s residence, it is reiterated that the concerned guard commander has been suspended, other security personnel have been replaced, and disciplinary proceedings have been initiated against those responsible for the security lapses,” the statement read.
