Agartala, 13th January 2026:  Retirement has not slowed down veteran cyclists Chandan Bhowmik and Ajoy Saha. Both above 60 years of age and long-standing members of the Agartala Cycloholics Foundation, the duo is undertaking an extraordinary bicycle expedition from Agartala to Kanyakumari, which entered its seventh day on January 11.

Starting their journey from Tripura’s capital, the cyclists have already reached Guwahati within eight days, covering demanding distances on fully loaded bicycles. Their feat has drawn admiration from citizens, fellow cyclists, and youth groups along the route.

Having completed their service careers, Bhowmik and Saha chose to dedicate their post-retirement lives to social causes, environmental awareness, and youth inspiration. Through this expedition, they are advancing the mission of the Agartala Cycloholics Foundation, which promotes cycling as a sustainable lifestyle and a powerful tool for social change.

Carrying the Indian National Flag, the cyclists are spreading the message of the nationwide campaign “Cycle Chalao, Desh Bachaao”. The initiative emphasizes building a cleaner and greener India, encouraging young people to remain free from addiction, and inspiring them to adopt healthy, disciplined, and active lifestyles.

Speaking during the journey, Shri Chandan Bhowmik said: “After our service life, we chose not to slow down but to move forward with purpose. Retirement gave us the opportunity to serve society in a new way. Through this journey, we want to inspire the youth to remain free from addiction, embrace healthy living, and see cycling as a tool for positive change. This is the true spirit of ‘Cycle Chalao, Desh Bachaao.’”

Despite their age, both cyclists continue to ride long distances daily, proving that fitness, discipline, and national service know no age barrier. Their journey has received warm support from local communities and cycling groups across states.

As the expedition advances toward its final destination in Kanyakumari, the effort of these senior cyclists stands as a shining example of purposeful and inspiring post-retirement life. Citizens across the country are extending best wishes for the safe and successful completion of this remarkable national journey.
