Agartala, 25th August 2025: Veteran members of Tripura State Rifles (TSR), once hailed as the pride of the state are voicing deep frustration over what they describe as years of discriminatory and inhumane treatment by senior officials within the force. The latest transfer order issued on August 23 has reignited longstanding grievances among older TSR personnel stationed in remote and forested regions of the state.
According to multiple sources within the force, senior TSR officials have consistently favored younger recruits by assigning them to urban police stations, administrative offices and more comfortable postings. Meanwhile, seasoned personnel many nearing retirement have been left in challenging terrains such as hills and jungles, often for decades without rotation.
Speaking anonymously due to fear of reprisal, one veteran remarked, “We’ve served in the toughest conditions for years. Now, as we approach retirement, we deserve relief not continued hardship.”
The August 23 directive ordering transfers across TSR units has sparked renewed outrage. Older jawans posted in remote areas say they were once again overlooked for relocation, while younger recruits were reassigned to city-based roles. “It’s as if the department sees with one eye dipped in ghee and the other in mustard oil,” said one jawan, referencing the perceived double standards.
Despite previous media reports highlighting these concerns, officials have allegedly failed to address the issue. Now, affected personnel are appealing directly to Chief Minister and Home Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha, urging him to intervene and ensure fair treatment for those who have served the state’s most difficult regions for years.
“We’re not asking for favors. We’re asking for justice. Let the youth take up the mantle in the forests, and allow us to serve our final years with dignity,” said another jawan.
As the issue gains renewed media attention, all eyes are on the state leadership to see whether corrective action will be taken. For the aging TSR jawans, the hope is simple: recognition of their service and a chance to step away from the jungle, at least this time.
